HA! Hardly... I agree with the person who said snowboarding is much more painful to learn!!! Surfing gives you more freedom of movement. I prefer surfing but I hate being cold and being outside when it is cold and I don't like falling so I pretty much stick to the ocean! I thought I'd be a decent snowboarder but boy was I wrong! I'm too much of a wimp for that lol!

I do both and in my opinion it's not the same or even very similar except on bigger waves. I'm not an expert snowboarder but turning results from adjusting your rails through weighting and unweighting as you slide. Turning your short board is more of a body twisting and throwing action. Long turns on a steep face use rail weighting similar to snowboard turns.

I have tried both and am an expert at neither. But I can tell you that as a beginner, snowboarding is way more painful and surfing is way more tiring. The feeling you get when you stand up on a surfboard is exhilarating.

Knowing how to snowboard definitely expedited my learning process for surfing. They are both different in ways, but knowing one will greatly help you out learning the other.
